Innovation Initiatives Ontario North (IION) is part of the Northern Technology Alliance, Regional Innovation Centre (RIC) and is located in North Bay at Nipissing University /Canadore College. An effective local regional resource alliance serving clients with funders, researchers and city stakeholders connected within the Ontarion Network of Excellence (ONE).

We have identified advanced manufacturing, aerospace and mining support engineering, health care opportunities, agriculture, green environmental eco technology, forest bioproducts including natural products, resource management, project management, policy development, and a new cluster in IT as target opportunities.

The location will be optimal to leverage synergies with the existing expertise at both Nipissing University and Canadore College's campuses. Our goal is to work to increase knowledge, education and practice of business innovation and entrepreneurial activity, and at all times being client driven.

IION provides expert sector business advisory services, strategic planning, connector services for the resources required for growth and economic development, project and company due diligence, and in some cases limited project management.

IION, is part of the Northern Technology Alliance which is a collaboratie network of organizations from across the major centres in Northern Ontario, designed to help clients commercialize their ideas. And together we are part of ONE Network.

Our Goal

Innovation Initiatives Ontario North's primary goal is the diversification of the Northern Ontario economy. This objective will be met through the facilitation of partnerships between industry and educational institutions as well as between industries whose synergies may not have been as apparent in the past; for example, the lumber and chemical industries.

The vision of IION is to firmly establish itself as the regional 'go-to' address for innovation and commercialization at the public-private sector interface. For example, in the areas of Information Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Bioscience and Medicine as well as Bioproducts from renewable and sustainable sources. IION is an expert driven organization. We place a strong emphasis on both transformational and convergent technologies as tools to promote economic diversification and higher level job creation.
